Sandstone Block Retaining Walls.

Sandstone block retaining wall systems are commonly used throughout Queensland due to their durability and long-lasting nature. The heavy weight of the blocks often eliminates or minimizes the need for excavation, enabling a fast and efficient installation—provided there is sufficient space. These walls are built to handle substantial loads, and with proper engineering design, some systems can be constructed to reach significant heights.

Sandstone Colours & Styles.

Sandstone block wall designs are generally standard, but the quality of the blocks can significantly impact the appearance of the retaining wall. Blocks are commonly graded as A, B Premium, and B Grade, with these being the most popular options. The grading reflects the smoothness of the block's finish.

Engineering.

Is your retaining wall over 1m high? Or is it within 1.5m of another structure? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you will require an engineering design to be completed for your project.

Retaining Wall FAQ’s

    • Timber Retaining Walls:
Timber is a popular choice for smaller retaining walls with minimal fill to retain. Options include treated pine and hardwood. Treated pine is more affordable, while hardwood offers greater longevity.

    • Concrete Sleeper Retaining Walls:
For walls over 1 meter in height, concrete sleepers are an excellent option. They are more durable than timber and are available in various styles. We supply and install a wide range of feature designs for concrete sleeper retaining walls. Contact our office or explore our social media pages for design inspiration!

    • Sandstone Block Retaining Walls:
Sandstone blocks are commonly used for commercial developments but can also suit residential projects with adequate space.

Let us help you choose the best retaining wall for your project!

  • Absolutely! We can provide pricing based on plans and drawings. The key details we need are the height and length of the retaining wall, which should be included in certified plans.

To ensure accuracy, we always conduct a site visit to assess ground conditions, account for any variables, and verify measurements before finalizing the quote.

  • The installation of a retaining wall typically takes between three days and three weeks, depending on its size. Additional factors such as site access and ground conditions can also impact the timeline.

To get a clear estimate for your project, reach out to one of our consultants for a discussion.

  • Yes, our retaining wall designs include drainage. A standard design incorporates a slotted rigid PVC drainage pipe, installed behind the wall beneath a layer of free-draining aggregate and geo-textile material. The pipe’s diameter is determined by the size of the wall and the certified design specifications.

  • Engineering approval and drawings are necessary for retaining walls exceeding 1 meter in height. They are also required if the wall will be built within 1.5 meters of another structure or retaining wall.

We can guide you through the engineering and design process by collaborating with our engineer to create the ideal retaining wall system for your project. This involves both a structural and geotechnical engineer assessing the property before completing a full design and issuing a Form 15.

Please allow up to four weeks for the engineering process.

  • Yes. We carry public and product liability insurance as well as professional indemnity insurance. Please contact our office to obtain a copy of our certificates.

  • The fastest way to determine if you need building approval is to contact your local council. In most cases, like-for-like retaining wall replacements do not require approval. However, more complex projects, such as those involving block subdivisions, will need approval before work can begin.

We can help guide you through the council approval process. Get in touch with us for more details.

  • Yes. We can install various types of fencing along with our retaining walls. This includes the following:
